An Exercise in Conceptual Storytelling
A project in my UT College Scholars program of study – titled Creative Storytelling in User Experience Design – Origin is a novel segment written throughout my fiction writing classes. The point of this segment is not only to begin building a world in which to base my other creative endeavors, but also to serve as a starting point for research in video game design.
Origin follows the path of four unique protagonists who are forced to flee from a city they thought was home. Upon learning that each person’s memory was wiped before entering – an attempt at utopia from an elemental empress – Each character is left without a home, family, or sense of self.
However, the organization who rescued them – a neutral diplomatic and peacekeeping force known as The Origin – is willing to give them aid, training, and purpose. In exchange for a couple of jobs in return.
Follow Reve the shapeshifter, Melira the sorceress, Leora the priest, and Kesten the alchemist as they trek towards Caerna – a city carved from beneath a meteor – and try to find themselves and help others.
Each main character has been designed with a set of traits, themes, and backstories in mind – along with equivalent research on how to adapt these characters into video game equivalents.
